Made from wool sourced from sheep in the mountains of Serra da Estrelas in the north of Portugal, ESPIGA is a tribute to the symbolism of the Day of the Cob.

Cob Day or Thursday Cob Day is a Portuguese celebration that occurs on the Thursday of the Ascension with a morning walk, in that we harvest cobs of various cereals, wild flowers and olive twigs to form a bouquet, that is called a spike.

The Cob day  was also called the “day of the hour” and considered “the holiest day of the year”, a day for not working. It was named the day of the hour because there was a time, noon, when everything stopped: “the waters of the rivers did not run, the milk does not curdle, the bread does not leavens, and leaves intersect”

The symbolism behind the plants that form the spike bouquets: Spike: bread; Marigold: gold & silver;  Poppy: love & life; Olive: oil, peace & light; Vine: wine & joy; Rosemary: health & strength
