ENCAUSTIC CEMENT TILES HANDMADE BY ARTISANS
Made upside down in a brass-mould with the finished top surface formed first, the tile is a carefully crafted product of cement mixed with coloured pigments. Excess water is absorbed by a second layer, known as “the good one” consisting of a dry mix in equal parts of very soft sand and cement. A third and final layer of mortar, called “the thick one” is then immediately poured, made of a mix of 4 parts to 1. This final layer forms the bottom of the cement tile, and guarantees a proper adhesion to a cement or mortar floor. Once the tile is pressed, it is taken off the mould to be transferred to a chamber for regular watering to slow down the drying process and prevent any cracks to guarantee a perfect finish.
Matt finish – no glazing applied. In stock colour pigment. Suitable for internal and external applications subject to suitable treatment.
Dimensions: 200m x 200mm x 18mm. 25 tiles = 1 sq m
