Procurement of Viroc Cement Bonded Particle Board

Craft Design Construction is an independent UK supplier of Viroc Cement Bonded Particle Board.

Working with our partners in Portugal, we have set up a robust supply chain to supply the UK market. Viroc boards can be supplied as standard 2.6m and 3m lengths, or to specified dimensions. Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) profile, and drilled screw holes can also be provided on request. This means the boards can be prepared and delivered direct to site without requiring further work except for applying sealant in situ. A procurement that allows for potential lower costs and project delivery efficiency, subject to quantities and factory capacity.

Competitive pricing

Boards are usually despatched direct from our suppliers in Portugal to site, thereby avoiding costly warehouse storage in the UK, meaning we can pass savings onto the consumer. Speak to us about our competitive prices.

Viroc Cement Bonded Particle Board Application and Properties

Viroc is a composite material of compressed cement and dry pine particles, that combines the strength of cement with the flexibility and grain of wood. It comes in standard board sizes for easy handling and installation, making it suitable for a wide range of projects for internal and external applications, from ceiling to flooring, facades to walls. Viroc also works well as a material for joinery and signage, and is suitable for use with CNC profiling. Please note, Sanded is not suitable for all applications.

Viroc Cement Bonded Particle Board

8, 10, 12, 16, 19, 22, 25, 28, 32mm. Not all finishes (Sanded/ Unsanded) are available in all thicknesses.

Board dimensions

Standard board dimensions are 1260 x 3000mm and 1260 x 2600mm. Cut board dimensions are available on request.

Sound insulation

Viroc provides a good sound insulation, with the board thickness providing the index at which sound insulation is measured. As a guide, airborne sound resistance is 31 dB for 8mm, and 37 dB for 22mm board thickness.

Moisture resistant

Viroc does not disaggregate, making it impermeable to water and resistant to water vapour.

Thermal insulation

Viroc has good thermal resistance properties, meaning it can function as insulation in both cold and hot temperatures.

Weight resistant

With a bending strength that enables it to be used as a resistant structural element, Viroc is suitable for flooring and roof applications. The characteristic breaking strength on bending is 10.5 N/mm2 with an elasticity modulus of 6000 N/mm2.

Loadings should be calculated by an appointed structural engineer. Craft Design Construction cannot provide calculations for your project.

Fire retardant

Viroc is classified as B-s1, in accordance with EN 13501 European standards, fire rating based on surface spread of flame.

Insect resistant

Viroc will not degrade due to living organisms such as fungi, termites, or any kind of insects.

Cutting and drilling

Viroc can be cut and drilled, the tools and fastening systems used on Viroc boards are similar to those used with wood. A Tungsten blade is recommended for in-situ sawing.

Non-toxic

Viroc does not contain dangerous volatile compounds and is free of silica, asbestos and formaldehyde, making it a non-toxic and eco-friendly material.

Sealant

Viroc Cement Bonded Particle Boards should be sealed in situ to protect against water, dirt and stain. Hempacryl Solfix 26P02 by sealant manufacturer Hempel is suitably recommended, with specification and quantities available on request.

NB: Viroc is manufactured as a non-homogeneous material, with a standard ‘rough’ finish that may present some shades due to the composition of cement porosity and salts. Usually these shades run lengthways and sometimes appear as ‘lines’, the direction as a result of the production line up. This condition may appear more pronounced in some productions than others due to properties of the raw materials, but which is part of the materials appeal.

The ‘lines’ or shades can be smoothed by “polishing” the panel surface, although the condition will never disappear 100%. To polish the panel surface it’s recommended to use a polishing disk (“scotch brite”) or sanding disk of 180gr minimum. This procedure will remove the superficial cement salts and homogenise the panel surface, smoothing out the natural shades. Where required, polishing can be undertaken at the factory.
